Gene Banking

Gene banking is simply the preservation of an animal’s genes in liquid nitrogen, where they will remain available for future use. All that’s required is a small biopsy sample that you or your veterinarian provide.

By gene banking your most valuable animals, you protect your investment, and preserve the option to multiply that investment later through cloning (learn more about the benefits of cloning). If you lose an animal to injury or disease, or you geld a colt that later proves to have valuable reproductive potential, gene banking is sound insurance.

Franklin Rodeo Company welcomed the cloned foal of their legendary saddle bronc/bareback horse “Airwolf”, as the latest addition to their bucking string in August,2008.

When you order our CryoSure™ service, our scientists culture your animal’s cells before cryopreserving them, to confirm that the cells are viable and that you will have the option to clone the animal whenever you’re ready. ViaGen will contact you about four weeks after receiving the biopsy sample, to tell you whether the cells are viable. Only rarely does a biopsy sample fail to yield viable cells, but CryoSure™ gives you peace of mind.
