[...] That is the chance you take with ANY breeding to any other horse. There are NO guarantees at all in horse breeding as far as performance potential goes. Take for example the TB yearling that sold for something like 6 MILLION dollars only because he was the FULL brother of a highly successfull race horse. But the yearling turned out to be a total dud. Didn't even make it to the track. People all over the world take a chance on on every single breeding they ever do. It happens all the time. People breeding the best to the best and get a dud. And Now people get a chance to breed to the clones of other good horses that never got a chance to reproduce. And People WILL continue to take those chances no matter what others think of it. Besides it is not like Scamper is the first or only famous horse to be cloned. A two time world champion endurance horse was cloned solely for breeding purposes because his "father" was a gelding the same as Scamper. Gene synthesis, synthetic genes, and protein expression - Entelechon GmbH http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com/info/news_clone.html What I'm really against is the cloning of mares and or stallions who already have offspring like these ones. I really think that cloning an old mare just because she can no longer reproduce is FAR more selfish then cloning a gelding who never got the chance to reproduce in the first place.
