AnguSure™

Conventional branded beef programs depend on visual inspections of animals, which do not always accurately confirm that the animals meet the desired breed specifications for the brand. For example, tests show that a large percentage of beef sold as "Angus" does not meet the standard of being more than 50% Angus and less than 25% Brahman (see chart at bottom).

ViaGen produced this calf, Priscilla, by cloning a Prime Yield Grade 2 Angus heifer using a cell taken from its carcass.

AnguSure™ is a test developed by ViaGen that detects the presence of Angus DNA in a biological sample taken at any stage of the beef production process, from birth to burger. AnguSure™ provides the market's most accurate—and only DNA based—test for affirming the genetic composition of the world's most popular beef variety. ViaGen is well on its way to making DNA-based certification a consumer standard for taste, quality and safety.

ViaGen developed AnguSure™ through its genomics research program. Genomics is the study of an organism's genome and the function of the genes. ViaGen's genomics capabilities also make parentage verification easy and reliable.

Premium Gold Angus Beef, one of the nation's oldest and largest sellers of premium quality Angus beef, has exclusive rights to use AnguSure™ to provide consumers with the nation's first and only beef DNA-certified to meet a genetic minimum of 50% Angus.
